Susantha was born with autism and lives with his mother in the green scenery of Sri Lanka. There is a big taboo on having a disability. His mother did not know how to take care of the boy.
For example, he was unable to indicate when he was hungry or had to go to the toilet. She was terrified of how he would fare if she was gone. Susantha was allowed to attend the day center of Dutch-Lanka Friendship Foundation (DLFF). Every day he comes to school by bus. Students learn to participate in society and to earn a living. Meanwhile, Susantha is doing well. He is able to look after himself and helps his mother with chores, such as running errands, cooking and preparing her bathwater. What a world of difference. The smile on Susantha's face speaks volumes. Together we can raise more children like Susantha in the power of a family!
DLFF has portrayed the inspiring story of Susantha. Watch the video above.
